we met,
and, then it grew on us,
and, unmeeting was painful,
and eons passed,
as the tides and time
wore each out,
but couldn't touch
us,
and the soul
that we shared
we spoke,
and then it became a habit,
until the lips turned dry,
unspeaking was like
the lamp blowing out;
we smiled,
and we wept,
leaning against the other,
until chokings stopped
and the eyes went dry,
and then we walked
apart,
unseeing the dreams,
we'd seen,
but nothing could shake
us
and the soul
that we shared
we sat across,
a thousand miles
apart,
lost in crowds
and in piles of thoughts,
quiet and calm,
as the waves pounded,
and not a single word,
slipped,
as a bead of tear
gushed from my heart,
and i swallowed
the lump,
the pillow tucked to my chest;
fighting
a different battle,
in a different world,
a drop oozed,
through the corner
of your eyes
as lost, in a quiet corner,
you gazed into the wall clock,
and toyed the thought
of unpenning the lines,
and unwhispering
of the word we'd given,
but nothing mattered
to us ever,
for the soul string
that we shared
